Electricity 2.0 Staff Director/Project Coordinator
NDN and the New Policy Institute seek a Washington, DC based Staff Director/Project Coordinator to help launch and manage our Electricity 2.0 Project.
Electricity 2.0 is a vision for an open, connected, modernized electricity network capable of allowing the innovation necessary to foster a clean technology and renewable energy revolution. We are seeking a Project Coordinator who shares this cutting edge vision and is committed to playing a key role in launching a multi-year campaign to make it a reality.
Responsibilities include:
- Overall in-house coordination of the Electricity 2.0 project
- Providing key operational and logistical support to the Electricity 2.0 Chairman, Senior Fellow, and other principals;
- Helping to represent the project and vision to Washington DC stakeholders, Congress and the Administration through advocacy, arranging meetings, designing and executing events, and other outreach;
- Performing ongoing outreach to and communication with project partners, regional stakeholders, and Electricity 2.0 evangelists;
- Managing a communications strategy that includes traditional press, new media, and coordinating public speaking opportunities for project principals;
- Producing, coordinating, and contributing substantively to written content and research, including white papers, blogs, essays and op-eds on the subject of Electricity 2.0 and related topics;
- Producing and coordinating the production and promotion of operational content, including fundraising proposals, press releases, and marketing materials;
- Working with the rest of the NDN and New Policy Institute team to advance Electricity 2.0 and the mission of NDN and the New Policy Institute.
Job Requirements:
- 3+ years experience in the electricity, utility, clean technology/renewable energy, and/or policy fields;
- Deep knowledge of and desire to reform the nation's electricity system;
- Knowledge of smart grid, clean and renewable technology and clean energy space;
- Connections to Washington-based policy community and/or stakeholders;
- Writing ability and experience; proficiency with computer and web tools and software; good communications skills;
- Academic degree in economics, political science, technology or energy policy, or related field.
Additional Qualifications:
- Masters degree in public policy, energy policy, or related field
- Political/Administration/Hill/Campaign experience

Internships at NDN
NDN internships provide experience at a leading progressive think tank and advocacy group. The work environment is professional, fast-paced, and will give interns the ability to develop their political knowledge and skills. Successful applicants will be motivated, self-starting, and familiar with NDN’s goals, objectives, and history. We offer competitive compensation and a transportation stipend to all of our interns.
Availability: NDN's 10-week internship program will begin on Monday, June 7th and run through Friday, August 13th.

This summer, NDN is offering the following six internships:
- Globalization Project: NDN's Globalization Initiative was established to promote economic growth and restore broad-based prosperity in our globalized economy. The Globalization intern will assist with research and writing on domestic and international economic policy. A successful applicant will possess an understanding of politics and economics. An academic background in international relations, political science, economics, or related field is preferred.
- Green Project: NDN’s Green Project works to develop a legislative, regulatory and advocacy framework to address climate change, enhance energy security, transition to a low-carbon economy, and accelerate the development of clean technologies and infrastructure to promote economic growth and the creation of jobs. The Green Project intern will assist with research and writing on energy and economic policy. A successful applicant will have an understanding of politics and economics, and have a demonstrated interest in energy or environmental policy. An academic background in political science, economics, or a related field is preferred.
- Hispanic Programs: The Hispanic Programs Intern will work on a range of issues that affect Hispanics in the United States and throughout the world. These issues range from Immigration and the US Census to our Latin American Policy Initiative (LAPI). Specific responsibilities include managing relationships and refining our online presence by blogging and using other social media platforms. An ideal candidate would be someone who has demonstrated that he or she is a self-starter and an excellent writer. Strong analytical skills and the ability to adapt to a dynamic environment are also key qualities.
- Global Mobile: NDN's Global Mobile Technology Initiative is a center to promote better understanding of the myriad ways that mobile technology and global connectivity are changing our lives, and to explore how a growing information and communications network can be leveraged to improve our world. The Global Mobile intern will assist with research and writing on the role technology plays in our world. A successful applicant will have strong research skills, excellent writing ability, and a passion for learning. Applicants should demonstrate interest in one, some, or many of the subjects covered on our Global Mobile blog.
- Research and Writing: The Research and Writing Intern will report both to the Editor/Writer and to the Office of the President. This intern will assist in the daily management of NDN's web content, the execution of NDN's communication strategies, and the use of our various social networking tools. This intern will also produce content for NDN and the New Policy Institute sites and blogs, and conduct research & writing assignments for the Office of the President. Successful applicants will have strong research skills, excellent writing skills, a good attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, balance multiple projects, and work independently.
- Membership and Development: This internship will provide experience in the area of non-profit fundraising and membership programming/management, as well as exposure to all the issues, projects and events at a leading, center-left think tank and advocacy organization in Washington, DC. Interns will help plan and execute many of the organizations’ events, will gain experience in identifying and engaging foundations, corporations and individuals to fund and support NDN and The New Policy Institute, and strengthen their research, writing and organizational skills in a professional work environment. Successful interns will have an interest in and affinity for center-left politics and policy, a desire to learn basic fundraising skills and procedures, and be organized, outgoing and attentive to detail.
